Step out for a scenic trek with our favourite Mallorca hiking routes. The walks are well-signposted, so all you’ll need is sturdy footwear, a sun hat and water.

On the eastern side of the island, this gentle coastal hike offers dazzling ocean views along easily accessible pathways. Beginning at the pretty beach resort of Cala Romantica, head south around the cliff head and continue on the coastal pathway. Look out for the cave along the way, and the beautiful arched rocky outcrop at Cova des Pont. Curve around the cliff and you’ll reach your final destination of Cala Varques, a secluded beach with turquoise waters, ideal for a post-hike dip.

The ancient ruins of 15th-century Alaró Castle are perfect for an exploratory hike. Situated north of Palma, before the Tramuntana mountains, the castle’s elevated spot guarantees glorious views. Drive to the town of Alaró and follow the signs to the castle. During your climb, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views across Mallorca’s plains. When you reach the castle, you can wander around the fortification’s remains before descending back down for lunch at the Rick Stein-recommended Es Verger restaurant.

Ramble through mountainous terrain from the village of Es Capdellà, starting from the rural Finca Galatzó. Follow the trail as it winds through a picturesque valley, keeping an eye out for wild goats and herds of donkeys as you continue towards the pretty coastal village of Estellencs. When you get there, claim your reward in the form of a chilled sangria.

Some of the prettiest Mallorca hiking routes start from the charming town of Sóller. This three-hour ramble takes you to the tranquil cove of Cala Deià – perfect for a refreshing post-walk dip. Start out on the old bridle path through the olive groves and follow the track to Finca Son Mico. Continue the scenic trail through the shady pine forests in the Tramuntana mountains to Llucalcari, and descend to Cala Deià. After relaxing on the beach, catch a boat back to Port de Sóller for lunch at Cap Roig Brasserie, overlooking the Balearic Sea.

This challenging hike winds across Mallorca’s westernmost tip, starting at the fishing village of San Telmo. Take the walking route along the western edge of the town up to the ruins of La Trapa monastery. You’ll get a superb view of Se Dragonera island on the way and you can admire the old cloisters from its observation deck. Follow the stony path along the cliffs and take time to enjoy the views from Puig de ses Basses. When you’ve had your fill of the wild landscapes and rolling vistas, return the way you came.
