The scent of orange blossom and pine needles fills the air as you wander past the dry-stone buildings and historic watchtowers that dot the hilly, forested landscape of the Tramuntana. From olive groves to the vineyards planted on steep terraces, the rural scene can be admired from one of the many walking trails or cycling paths that criss-cross the region. However, to really immerse yourself in the centuries-old villages and their charming attractions, take to the road and follow the route to Valldemossa.
Stop off in the villages of Estellencs and Banyalbufar and get lost as you explore their labyrinthine streets before arriving at Cartuja. This 15th-century monastery was home to the composer Chopin for a while. There’s the opportunity to follow more famous footsteps as you arrive in Deià and the house and gardens of poet Robert Graves. Back in Soller, it’s time to find out why the area is called the Valley of Oranges before boarding the port’s quaint wooden tramway.
To really get a sense of the area, soar above shimmering waters, rugged mountains, cliffs and coves on a private helicopter ride. Take some sensational aerial photos, before relaxing over a long lunch with more scenic views.
With the Mediterranean lapping at its shores, fresh seafood and lazy walks on the beach are definitely on the agenda during your stay in the Tramuntana. Discover the enchanting sea caves, scenic landscapes and historic sites of the Cabrera archipelago during a sightseeing excursion. Ferries and private boats depart from Colonia de Sant Jordi and give you plenty of time to sunbathe on sandy beaches or swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear waters of Sa Cova Blava – the evocatively named blue cave.
In the evening, board a luxury sailing boat or motorised yacht for a sensational sunset adventure. An attentive steward will serve you a selection of snacks, canapés and sparkling wines.
